Prehistoric update — what to check first

The May 23 Discord update is broad enough that players should not treat it like a normal bug count bump. It changes where to explore, how inventory behaves, how mobile drag feels, and which older puzzle assumptions still hold. The table below turns the official patch text into a practical checklist.

Patch itemPlayer actionDetails
Bonefern + Scorchden Open the locations guide first, then join a fresh server. Both locations are named in the official Discord #updates post.
52 new bugs Keep one copy of every high-rarity Prehistoric catch until the Bugdex impact is known. The count of 52 comes from the official Discord #updates post.
Inventory rework Re-test large-inventory routes before selling duplicates; performance should be better in big collections. Inventory rework and performance improvements are listed in the official Discord #updates post.
Research stations, crates and NPCs Check new interactables before grinding raw spawns; they may gate quests, skins or progression rewards. Listed in the official Discord #updates post.
Ants puzzle removed Stop following older ant-puzzle route videos until the team repurposes the puzzle in a later update. Removal and future repurpose are from the May 24 #updates follow-up.
Mammoth Spider buff Re-check Mammoth Spider if it was previously underperforming for your route or vivarium slot. Buff announced in the May 24 official Discord #updates follow-up.

Players searching for catch bugs prehistoric update, catch bugs bonefern or catch bugs scorchden mostly want to know what changed and which older guide assumptions no longer hold: the ants puzzle route is gone, inventory behaves differently and two new zones are open. Continue with the locations guide or the codes page.
